About the Garden

The Cambridge Health Alliance (CHA) is a health organization that provides high-quality healthcare to Cambridge, Somerville, and Boston’s metro-north communities. The CHA is composed of three hospitals, and a strong network of primary care and specialty practices. The CHA has a teaching partnership with Harvard Medical School, the Harvard School of Public Health, Harvard School of Dental Medicine, and the Tufts University School of Medicine.

For the past 7 years, the CHA has maintained the Spring Hill Garden, located beside the CHA School of Nursing. Director Lisa Brukilacchio began the garden in 2010, in order to increase access to healthy food and raise awareness for the importance of health and wellness. The garden has 13 raised beds and supplies fresh produce to local food pantries and residential programs.

The CHA garden has relocated to a residential program called Womanplace, which serves a transitional residential home for adult women in recovery. This new garden will serve not only as a food source for the residents, but also as an opportunity for the residents to develop valuable skills.
