This past holiday season, League of Kitchens CEO Lisa Kyung Gross (center) along with instructor and Chef of Argentinian cuisine Mirta Rinaldi (right) and Chef Ana Sortun (left) came to the Brookline Booksmith to talk about the ten-year anniversary of starting League of Kitchens and the release of their cookbook.

The League of Kitchens main goal is to teach you how to “cook like a grandma” through their online and in person lessons where chefs from all over the world host lessons in their home kitchens in the New York City area.

The League of Kitchens cookbook focuses on highlighting the diversity of cultures of the instructors within the women-owned and operated business. Along with Lisa, instructor Mirta brought their home cooking and traditions to the book. Inside she highlighted her Argentinian heritage with a combination of art and culture (along with her delicious dishes) through the presentation of Yerba Mate (a type of tea that is drunk from a gourd with a special straw, called a bombilla) which is passed from person to person). The book discusses the background of each instructor including all the quirks of their cooking that allows them to “cook like a grandma”. These chefs are from all over the world from places such as Mexico, India, Ukraine, Afghanistan, and more. Urban Food Stories is proud to present their cookbook that connects food and culture through an authentic and considerate lens that not only allows you to get an authentic taste but an authentic cooking experience!
